Cold Brew Guide
Cold Brew Like a Pro: A Barista’s Guide
Welcome to the world of smooth, bold, and refreshing cold brew! Whether you’re a coffee newbie or a seasoned sipper, mastering the cold brew game is easy when you have the right ratios and a little patience. Here’s how we do it in the trailer—and now, you can too!
What You’ll Need:
Coffee – 1 part coarsely ground beans (freshly roasted for best flavor!)
Water – 12 parts filtered water (cold or room temp)
A Vessel – Mason jar, French press, or any large container
A Filter – Cheesecloth, fine-mesh strainer, or coffee filter
Time – Good things take time, and cold brew is no exception
Step 1: Choose Your Beans
Cold brew is super forgiving, but the best results come from a medium to dark roast with chocolatey, nutty, or caramel notes, just like Mull Tree Coffee’s Bonfire roast or Potters Blend. These flavors shine in a slow extraction and give you that smooth, rich taste.
Step 2: Grind Like You Mean It
Grind your beans coarse—think sea salt, not sand. A finer grind leads to over-extraction, which means bitterness. Coarse grounds = clean, sweet, and delicious cold brew.
Step 3: Mix It Up
Combine your coffee and water in your chosen container. Stick to the 1:12 ratio—for example:
1 cup coffee → 12 cups water
100g coffee → 1200g water
Give it a gentle stir to make sure all the grounds are saturated.
Step 4: The Long Nap (Steeping Time)
Cover your container and let it steep for 14-18 hours at room temperature or in the fridge. The longer it sits, the stronger it gets. 14 hours = smooth, 16 hours = bold.
Step 5: Filter & Enjoy
Once time’s up, strain out the grounds using a fine-mesh strainer, cheesecloth, or coffee filter. Pro tip: If you’re using a French press, just plunge and pour!
Now you have a cold brew concentrate. It’s STRONG—so dilute it with water, milk, or your favorite alternative at a 1:1 ratio (or to taste).
Step 6: Serve It Up!
Over Ice – Classic, refreshing, and smooth
With Cold Foam – Fancy it up with vanilla, caramel, or sweet cream
Nitro-Style – Pour from a height for a naturally creamy texture
Espresso Martini Base – Because why not?
Make it stand out
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Storage & Shelf Life
Cold brew keeps fresh in the fridge for up to a week—but let’s be honest, it won’t last that long. Store in an airtight container to preserve those flavors!
Final Pro Tip:**
If you want to experiment, try different beans, adjust the ratio slightly, or even toss in some cinnamon, vanilla, or a splash of oat milk. Cold brew is all about finding your perfect balance.
Now go forth and brew like a pro!
